Gouthro scores winner, Glace Bay Miners edge Cape Breton County Islanders at home

 

Hudson Gouthro turned out to be the hero for the Glace Bay Miners on Tuesday night.

Gouthro’s goal at 8:10 of the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Miners edged Cape Breton Regional Municipality rival Cape Breton County Islanders 3-2 in Nova Scotia Under-13 ‘AAA’ Hockey League action at Miners Forum in Glace Bay.

Luke McNeil had a goal and two assists while Dylan Dickson also found the back of the net for the Miners (8-8-5).

Brandon Deleskie and Marty MacLeod replied with goals for the Islanders (14-4-4).

Glace Bay’s Noah Boutilier picked up the win. Cape Breton County’s Trace Tanner was tagged with the loss. Statistics were not made available.

The Islanders led the game 2-0 after the first period, but the Miners responded with three unanswered goals to earn the victory.

Cape Breton County sits in fourth place in the overall 16-team provincial league, while Glace Bay is currently in 10th place with only four points separating them from fifth place Cape Breton West Islanders.

The Miners are back on the ice on Feb. 8 to host the Chebucto Atlantics at 2:30 p.m. at Miners Forum, while the Islanders will take on the East Hants Penguins on Feb. 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena in Eskasoni.
